June 2012 – August 2012

Jazz Quarters – The Headquarters for Jazz in Trinidad and Tobago
Conceptualised, produced and hosted a live music concert series that served as a platform for musicians, the audience and the new leaders of the local music industry in Trinidad and Tobago to meet, network, and create opportunities. Nine (9) artistes/groups were featured: Anthony Woodroffe Jr.; Mikhail Salcedo; Dean Williams; Modupe Onilu & Dayo Bejide Musiq; Jesse Ryan; Ernesto Garvia; John John; Antonio Mitchell; and Blue Culture

Jan 2010 – August 2011

Jazz & Fusion Tuesdays at La Casa de Ibiza
Produced and hosted weekly, live Jazz music performances for La Casa de Ibiza Lounge, Woodbrook, Trinidad. The event became a regular spot for seasoned lovers of the genre and also introduced the sound to new listeners, who simply enjoyed sharing a space with, “a number of musicians who need[ed] to keep working at their craft, and more importantly, need[ed] to be seen and heard outside of the atmosphere of a crowded “Greens” or some jazz festival” (Campbell 2010)

Blue Culture: The Band – The Launch – The Event (EP album and Concert)
Performed duties as Executive Producer for Blue Culture’s debut album, recorded at Alice Yard, Woodbrook, Trinidad, and Event Manager for the album launch held at the Diego Martin Pan Institute on 29 March 2008.

About Karl
Shaped by a passion for the arts that was nurtured during his formative years, Karl’s artistic expression is focused on community engagement and social impact.
Born on September 22, 1983, in Trinidad and Tobago, Karl’s artistic journey was shaped by a passion for the arts nurtured during his formative years at Queen’s Royal College (QRC), where he first established his creative skills and love for the arts.

Recognising the value of a solid academic grounding and driven by the pursuit for artistic excellence and creative development, Karl holds a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts, a Postgraduate Diploma in Arts and Cultural Enterprise Management (ACEM), and a Master of Arts in Cultural Studies practice-based (Visual Arts) research, all from the University of the West Indies (UWI). Complementing his educational journey, Karl is pursuing a Leadership Certificate in Arts Management with the University of Massachusetts Amherst, solidifying his commitment to enhancing his personal and professional development within the arts.

Artistically versatile, Karl creates captivating compositions using various media, including acrylic paint, oil pastels, and graphite. His artistic repertoire is enriched with rhythmic dynamism as a drummer. His diverse talents also extend to self-taught graphic design, photography, and videography, skills honed during his full-time engagement in graphics design since 2006.

  Karl’s musical experiences have seen him performing with esteemed groups such as Ray Holman and Friends, Sheldon Blackman and the Musical Warriors, Fuego Latino, and the Brass Institute. Notably, he co-founded and led the Caribbean Jazz band Blue Culture, where he played a pivotal role as a drummer.

A testament to his commitment to fostering community spirit, Karl has led projects under Blue Culture, such as Music-Film-Art-Poetry (2006); Blue Culture: The Band – The Launch – The Event (2008); Jazz Quarters (2012) and; CONNEXIONS art exhibition (2017)  – networking and showcasing events bringing together other young creative practitioners and supporters of the arts, while over the years also dedicating his time to volunteer work with cultural and community organisations such as The Art Society of Trinidad and Tobago, The Queen’s Royal College Old Boys’ Association, Westside Community Church, and more recently, Art Lime Gallery. In 2018, Karl was afforded the opportunity to participate in the prestigious U.S. State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), delving into the realm of Social Entrepreneurship. Through his participation, he gained valuable perspectives on leveraging his artistic endeavours as a catalyst for community empowerment, reinforcing his commitment to effecting positive change through arts production and social entrepreneurship.

  Karl’s artistic prowess and diligence have been showcased through an extensive exhibition history, including his debut solo exhibition in September 2023 titled “Parttime Passion: Longtime Love,” marking a significant milestone in his creative journey. This exhibition encapsulated his evolving style, thematic depth, and artistic growth, reflecting his profound dedication to authentic expressions of Caribbean identity and storytelling through art.
